Fragment of the Chapter "NON TRADITIONAL APPROACHES", "II ASAB Biennial: Photographic Practices", Francisco José de Caldas Universiversity, Bogotá Higher Academy of Arts, 2006.

EDUARDO SERRANO, Historian, theorist, expert and art curator.

The registers of Juan Alonso were clearly conceived and realized with well calculated procedures. Alonso copies over the human skin photographic images of the same body taking advantage of a determined masking, and the epidermis reaction to solar rays, opening by so doing not only a different path for photography, but an unknown number of possibilities for the pigment cells.  His work leads to remember the origin of photography by the effects of light on a sensitive material, and also, to the development of the photographic mean both in its definitions (drawing done by light), in its methods (the use of the amplifier), and in its characteristics (the extension of its permanency). The fact that in his work the subject becomes support no only in the camera register but in his own image illustrates the series of coincidences and references enriching his work.
